Hurricane Jova approached the western coast of Mexico late Tuesday as a Category 2 hurricane, the U.S. National Hurricane Center reported.At 11 p.m. PDT, the eye of the storm was 60 miles west of Manzanillo and moving north-northeast at 8 mph. A hurricane warning was in effect from Punta San Telmo to Cabo Corrientes with tropical storm warnings along the coast to the north and south.Jova was expected to make landfall early Wednesday and move inland, weakening steadily, through the day and into the night.Maximum sustained winds were about 100 mph and were expected to remain at that strength until the storm hits land. Hurricane-force winds only 15 miles from the center.Manzanillo Mayor Nabor Ochoa told CNN tourists had been warned to leave the busy port and tourist resort. The town was doing what it could to prepare, with 35 shelters ready and barricades up to prevent flooding.The National Hurricane Center warned of dangerous storm surges and of heavy rain with 6 to 12 inches predicted and as much as 20 inches in a few areas.
