Sydney's Taronga Zoo has a new silverback gorilla. Kibali is a western lowland gorilla, and he's been brought in from France to breed with the females in Taronga's colony. The 11-year-old primate was selected for his genes and calm personality, and is expected to fit in easily with the Sydney colony. "He's a very gentle gorilla and has a really calm nature," primate manager Lou Grossfeldt said. "In years to come I think he'll be an exceptional leader." Gorillas can weigh up to 270kg in captivity, but there are fewer than 100,000 western lowland gorillas left in the wild.
