A moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale Monday hit some parts of eastern and northeastern India, apart from the neighboring countries of Myanmar and Bangladesh, Indian meteorological officials said. However, there are no reports of any casualty or damage to properties in the quake. Tremors were felt at 08:47 a.m. local time in most parts of the northeastern Indian states of Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur, and parts of the eastern city of Kolkata, apart from Myanmar and Bangladesh. The epicenter was located at 24.947 degree north, 95.226 degree east in Myanmar, some 130 km east of Manipur capital Imphal, the United States Geological Survey said. Senior government officials have rushed to the affected areas.
