Streets, yards and a dozen homes in Alpine, Utah, were inundated with mud and water one resident described as "monster lava" after torrential rains. The flooding and mud flow Saturday occurred in an area where the Quail fire scorched about 5,000 acres last year. Resident Vickie Reay told the Deseret News her son took a cellphone video of water slopping over a wall in their front yard. "It was like a black monster lava; it just came," she said. Reay said the fire zone has produced similar flooding problems during past rains and it gets "worse every single time." Utah County sheriff's deputies said the storm produced rock slides and flooded streets in the Provo area. One car was hit by a falling boulder and had to be towed away. The start of the football game in Provo between Texas and Brigham Young was delayed for 2 hours. The Deseret News said rain-soaked fans were told to leave the grandstands as a precaution against lightning.
