Dujuan, the 21st typhoon this year, has grown into a super typhoon and is heading toward southeast China's Fujian and Taiwan, the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said Sunday.
Heavy rain and gales are set to batter parts of Fujian, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces from Sunday to Tuesday, according to the headquarters.
Waves of up to 4 to 7 meters along coastal areas are expected, posing a danger to offshore activities, the headquarters warned.
With speeds of 15 to 20 km per hour, Dujuan is currently approaching the coast of northeastern Taiwan and a landfall is expected Monday afternoon with maximum sustained winds of 48 to 50 meters per second, a typical characteristic of super typhoon.
It will land in coastal Fujian on Tuesday morning, bringing with it gales and heavy rain, the headquarters said.
