Typhoon Danas is losing strength as it passes through the Korea Strait between the Korean Peninsula and Japan, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said Tuesday. It said that as of 9 p.m. the central atmospheric pressure was measured at 980 hectopascals, with wind speeds reaching 31 meters per second. This makes it a medium-to-small-sized typhoon, the KMA said. "The typhoon is moving much faster at around 53 kilometers per hour, yet it lost a lot of its energy as it entered the Korea Strait and as it neared Tusima Island, where water temperatures fall off sharply," a KMA official said. At present, the maximum radius of strong winds stood at 190 kilometers, which is enough to affect parts of South Korea's southern and eastern coasts. The administration said weather warnings have been issued for all regions lying in the direction of the typhoon's path. Danas is moving in a northeasterly direction, heading into the East Sea. It should be 110 kilometers southeast of the Dokdo islets at 3 a.m. Wednesday, and about 370 kilometers northeast of South Korea's easternmost territory by 9 a.m. before it becomes a tropical depression.
