The Japan Meteorological Agency said the storm was moving north over the Sea of Japan after making landfall in Nagasaki Prefecture early Monday morning, Japan's broadcaster (NHK World) reported.
The agency said that the storm has left moisture-laden air over wide areas of western Japan, and it warned of sporadic heavy rainfall.
Kyushu was hit by heavy rain early Monday but it is now tapering off. Weather officials warned of possible landslides in some areas of Kumamoto Prefecture.
