An earthquake in the Vanuatu Islands didn't pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said Friday. The magnitude-6.7 quake occurred at 9:10 p.m. Hawaii time Thursday, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported. It was centered in the Pacific Ocean 129 miles southeast of Port Vila, Vanuatu's capital, at a depth of 19 miles, a report from the United States Geological Survey said. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the quake may have generated a local tsunami but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from Vanuatu. The island nation is 1,090 miles east of northern Australia.
