The water level in the Amur River near the city of Komsomolsk-on Amur in the Far East has risen by 11 centimeters to 882 centimeters at 8:00 in the morning local time (01:00 Moscow time) on Sunday. Almost 600 housing dwellings with a population of over 5,000 people, including 1,252 children, have been under-flooded, according to the Russian Emergencies Ministry department for the Khabarovsk territory. A total of 1,285 people have been evacuated from the flood-affected areas. Five temporary accommodation centers have been set up for the evacuees. Two Emergencies Ministry planes are waiting at Komsomolsk-on-Amur airport ready to start mass evacuation if necessary. New army and rescue units keep arriving in the city. The grouping has been reinforced threefold over the past three days: 2,749 people and 498 equipment units have been redeployed to the city. “The situation in Komsomolsk-on-Amur is complicated but it is under control,” the Emergencies Ministry said. In the meantime, the water is receding in Khabarovsk. The water level in the Amur has fallen by another 10 centimeters to 781 centimeters.
