Algerian photographers Besma Djemila Khalfa and Youcef krache will be exhibiting at the 10th Biennale of African Photography, scheduled for November in the Malian capital, Bamako, the organizers said.
The two Algerians were selected among 39 artists (photographers and videographers from Africa and the Diaspora), following a call for participation launched last January and had collected some 800 applications.
Born in Annaba (East of Algiers), Besma Djemila Khalfa is a graphic designer by training.
Professional photographer since 2011, she participated in numerous exhibitions in Algeria, especially in the last National Festival of Art Photography (FESPA), held in November 2014 at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Algiers.
She also held in the French Institute of Tlemcen an exhibition entitled "Theatre of the Alleyways."
Known through social media, Youcef krache is one of the young photographers who renovated the themes and aesthetics of this art in Algeria
The cultural space "La Baignoire" (The Bathtub) hosted last February his black and white portraits of users of public transport in the Algerian capital, on the occasion of the collective exhibition "Chawari3" (streets).
Organized since 1994 by the Malian Ministry of Culture, the Biennale of African Photography (also known as Encounters of Bamako) is considered as one of the most important international meetings of African photography.
