First opened in 1967, the Theatre Festival of Borgio Verezzi holds a prestigious role among National and International Festivals and in dramatic theatre. This year the festival is returning for its 46th season, and is dedicated to (recently-disappeared) actor and director Giancarlo Cobelli. The scenographic Piazzetta di Sant’Agostino, in Borgio Verezzi, will make for an evocative stage. The programme includes a collection of classical, traditional, modern and contemporary dramatic scripts, that are nonetheless open to “contamination” of language and the arts. Alongside Shakespeare, Molière, Machiavelli and Gautier, the audience will find modern and contemporary authors like Laura Sicignano, Noel Coward, Marc Camoletti and Neil Simon. The Festival’s 46th edition will favor lively comedies this go-round, evidenced by the slogan “Theatre, Medicine for the Soul.” In some of the plays, (Much Ado about Nothing, Le Capitaine Fracasse) the protagonists become (sometimes unwittingly) comics themselves. The playbill does not leave out works with particular social relevance, either. Also highlighted are a few Ligurian theatrical productions, including the premier of Scintille (Sparks) by Laura Sicignano, put on by Teatro Cargo di Genova. Much Ado about Nothing (in Italian, Molto rumore per nulla) will also be Ligurian in flavor, co-produced by Compagnia Gank di Genova and the Teatro Stabile di Genova. Meanwhile, the cult production this year is without a doubt "Boeing Boeing," a much-awaited comedy with a multiethnic cast to please the entire public! From / ITALIA website
