First-time author, Monika Bardhan, fulfills her life-long dream in publishing her first poetry book, entitled "Catching the Waves." In February1993, Monika’s dearest sister, Nita, presented her with a journal on her birthday where she could write all her poems. Hence, "Catching the Waves" tells of many different stories in the form of poetry, which is all about love, life, friendships and everything in between. From politics, world events, family and friendships, to sacrifices, sorrow, triumphs and tragedy, this poetry collection encompasses every aspect of human nature and everything that occurs in our daily lives. Publishing this book has become an all-important milestone for Monika. Her wonderful late maternal grandfather and her amazing mother were her greatest influences in her life. Her maternal grandfather, Upendra Chandra Das, who passed away in 1979, wrote the first piece of the book, entitled "The Indian Milkmaid in Malaysia." This piece eloquently describes what the life of a milkmaid was like in this country way back in the late 1960s. The poem "Love and Care for Older Parents" is a beautiful poignant piece written by her mother, Arati Bardhan. She naturally follows their lead and publishes her own book of poems. With a collection of literary works about different facets of life from all over the world and spanning over two decades, "Catching the Waves" is a stunning debut collection of contemporary poetry that encompasses events and issues which take place in people’s daily lives, deeply personal yet truly universal. With each poem uniquely capturing the full depth of emotions during triumphs, disappointments, wars, natural disasters, family, friendships and love, this is one anthology that will change readers’ lives as much as it has transformed the author.
