Thousands of volunteers collected garbage in Estonian cities and towns nationwide on Saturday, in a sustaining efforts to continue an international cleanup campaign "Let's do it" initiated since 2008. In Tallinn, a group of some 30 volunteers from the Pirita Community cleaned up a costal corner of the Tallinn port, collecting 18 bags of garbage including cigrettes ends and snack packages. Some 1,710 such one-day projects are organized this year, with over 19,000 volunteers signed up by Thursday. Last year 40,000 participants took part in 1,522 projects, according to Tarmo Tuur, the Estonian head organizer this year. The project, which started as a trash cleanup campaign in 2008 and has successfully exported to other countries, experimented with a "let's make the country better" round of nationwide brainstorming the next year, said Tarmo Tuur.
