An exhibition for historical currencies and antique instruments was inaugurated at the Arab Cultural Center in Qanawat town in Sweida. The exhibition, organized by Sweida Culture Directorate and al-Aadiyat institution with the participation of locals, showcased 200 old paper money and 500 antique coins, most of which are Syrian, as well as to a collection of Arab and foreign coins that date back to early last century. Director of the Center, Madiha al-Shahf, told SANA reporter that the exhibition shed light on the history of currency, calling for organizing more such exhibitions as they contribute to documenting history and preserving the archeological value of findings, not to mention its role in encouraging tourism. The supervisor of the exhibition, Tayser al-Abbas, said he tried to arrange the exhibited currency in an attractive manner so that to catch the attention of those who are interested in reading history. One of the participants said that his passion for collecting ancient coins has turned into love of looking into their history and age. Other participants said that collecting coins is very important to documenting historical eras and revealing more about the history of each region. Participant Ayman Jazan said he exhibited instruments used by old man in Sweida villages including axes, basins and troughs to press grapes.
