King Salman of Saudi Arabia was given a tour of Dubai on Monday by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, who praised the strong historical ties between their countries.
King Salman was briefed on the historical landmarks of Dubai, learning about how they show the Emirati community’s ties with Arabian Gulf and Arab heritage, reported Wam, the state news agency.
Sheikh Mohammed, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, explained how the UAE’s leaders were keen to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the country to provide a source of inspiration.
He also hailed Saudi Arabia’s role in maintaining the region’s stability, praising King Salman.
"Saudi Arabia and UAE have a common history, geography and destiny. They are united by a common outlook and shared principles," Sheikh Mohammed said.
"Today, King Salman is leading the Arab nation towards becoming a strong, balanced region whose interests are protected."
Sheikh Mohammed said the UAE would always stand with Saudi Arabia.
"Saudi Arabia plays a key role in maintaining the region’s stability, and King Salman, with his wisdom and determination, is the best person that we trust to be the leader in this critical juncture in history," he said.
"No doubt, the aspirations we have for our people, the speed of change the world is seeing and the seriousness of the challenges our region is facing, have shaped a unique relationship between KSA and UAE."
The countries’ ties are a model for Arab cooperation, he said.
"Our relationship is the example of a perfect partnership. If Arab countries had the same relationship, the situation in the region would have been different," said Sheikh Mohammed, calling it "a source of strength".
"Our cooperation with the kingdom is enduring and our coordination continues to be strong. Our relationship is now at its best.
"We have the same vision for the betterment of the people of our two countries and we are led by two of the best leaders who have strong determination."
King Salman’s tour started at Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House, which was built in 1896 in Shindagha area as the residence of the Al Maktoum family, which it remained until 1958.
King Salman watched footage documenting ancient life and other collections from the house, such as rare historical documents from the emirates as well as historic jewellery, coins, stamps and other items.
The king and Sheikh Mohammed also visited Saruq Al Hadid Archaeology Museum and historic parts of Shindagha, where King Salman heard about the area’s old Emirati architecture and unique homes overlooking Dubai Creek.
Also in attendance were Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed, Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation and Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed.
