On 12, 13 and 14 May, students from the Department of Arts at the American University in Cairo (AUC) will present The Telephone, a one-act opera, and highlights from the musical Les Miserables as part of their graduation project. The Telephone (or L'Amour à trois), with words and music by Gian Carlo Menotti, is directed by Frank Bradley. The performance will feature Nesma Mahgoub, graduating senior and winner of the eighth Star Academy Arab World, along with tenor Raouf Zaidan. The second half of the evening will include highlights from the popular musical Les Miserables performed by the graduating students. Sung in the Egyptian dialect, the performance is set to music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and directed by Mohamed Abou El-Kheir. The Egyptian version of the lyrics is translated by Sara Enany.
