The Closed Door Between Copts and Muslims by Ahmed El-Khamisi, Cairo: General Egyptian Book Organisation, 2012. The Closed Door Between Copts and Muslims recently published consists of a collection of articles by Ahmed El-Khamisi written over the last 10 years. The articles track the incidences of sectarian tension and discrimination that pose a risk to Egyptian national unity. With the expertise of El-Khamisi, the writing was slowly developing, rendering it a work of narration. The author argues that Egyptian civilisation is able to get over this hurdle, and argues that intellectuals must lead the way to overcome the hatred that is associated with discrimination. Among the article in the book are the following: “Religion and Literature,” “The Christian-Islamic Dialogue”, “Copts and Literature.” El-Khamisi is a journalist and writer with some 12 published books ranging from political analysis to travel literature, and is winner of Sawiris Cultural Award in 2012 for his collection of short stories, Canary.
