Films from Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Syria and Lebanon are to participate in a festival celebrating talent from across the Mediterranean basinThe 27th Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries will be held in the period 5-9 October, with six films from the Arab world scheduled to be shown. They include the Moroccan filmmaker Mohamed Moftakar’s Pegasus, which opens with the police finding a traumatised 20-year-old girl who has been assaulted. The girl seems to believe spirits haunt her and sees images of the mystical horse Pegasus. A psychologist begins treating the girl – and discovers her secret.The Tunisian film, Al-Nakheel Al-Jareeh (The Wounded Palm Trees), takes place in the town of Bizerte and revolves around Shama, a fresh graduate, who delves into the history of the battle of Bizerte, in which her father, a unionist railway worker, died; while the Syrian film, From Damascus with Love, by Mohamed Abdel Aziz, revolves around a girl trying to track down her lover, who has gone missing during the war in Lebanon.The other three films are to be screened outside the competition: Algerian filmmaker Dohman Ozeid’s The Arena, which revolves around a young man playing in a band and dreaming of fame; the Lebanese filmmaker Jocelyn Saab’s experimental Shou Am Beyseer (What Is Happening) and Tayeb Khalas Yalla (Okay, Let’s Go) by Rania Ateyya and Daniel Garcia.Egyptian films to participate will be announced in the next few days
