The Ajman Tourism Development Department, ATDD, is organising the third Liwa Ajman Dates Festival from July 27th – 29th, and preparations are well underway to bring a successful festival that will showcase the finest produce of local date farmers in the emirate.
Ajman Liwa Dates Festival, the popular heritage festival, is aimed at promoting the importance of the date palm tree in the life of the people living in the region, and is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors this year.
Speaking about the festival, Faisal Al Nuaimi, General Manager of ATDD, said, "Preparations are underway to bring the third edition of Ajman Liwa Dates Festival to the emirate. We are meeting with the sponsors and organisers to make this festival a huge success. We will be announcing more details about the event in a few days and we'd like to invite our local date farmers to prepare and exhibit their finest produce. This year we are also adding mangos and lemons to the categories."
The event is also aimed at boosting tourism in Ajman, where visitors can discover the many unique varieties of dates and is a great opportunity for those interested in dates and cultivation of palm trees to meet and interact.
During the three-day festival, there will be a variety of cultural and heritage events focusing on the importance of date palm tree, including discussions on how to take care of the tree to improve production of a diverse variety of dates.
There will be date competitions during the festival and winners of the contest will be announced at the end of each day.
The festival is being held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman.
