The Waste Management Department at Dubai Municipality has prepared a comprehensive plan for the clean-up and removal of waste resulting from New Year celebrations in the city. The New Year cleanup activities falls under the annual plan of the department to secure the sites of celebrations, festivals, sports and tourism events.

The main areas of cleanup will include Burj Khalifa, which becomes the focus of world attention during the New Year celebrations, Business Bay, Downtown city centre and Dubai Water Canal, in addition to the streets of Jumeirah and Sheikh Zayed Road.

Dubai Municipality has set up an integrated team consisting of 717 workers and volunteers to undertake the cleanup activities at the sites, said Director of Waste Management Department, Abdul Majeed Sifai.

He confirmed that all the preparations are being done in coordination with the Burj Khalifa administration and private sector establishments, who are responsible for a number of celebrations in the main areas of the city, in order to involve them in the cleanup operations.

"We have opened registration for teams of volunteers and individuals who wish to participate in the cleanup activities in various places, especially after midnight." he said.
