Thousands of music lovers arrived on Thursday for the Glastonbury Festival to revel in shows and atmosphere at the arts extravaganza. The main performances at Worthy Farm in Somerset will start on Friday with headliners the Arctic Monkeys, the Rolling Stones on Saturday night and Mumford & Sons on Sunday. Other highlights include appearances from Primal Scream, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Smashing Pumpkins, Elvis Costello, The xx, Public Enemy, Professor Green and Dizzee Rascal. Alongside the chart toppers, Bruce Forsyth will play on the Avalon Stage on Sunday followed by country singer star Kenny Rogers on the Pyramid Stage. Celebrities attending the event include Kate Moss and Mick Jagger who will stay back in Somerset to enjoy the festivities. Festival goers streamed on to the site from Wednesday to secure the best camping spot having trudged miles with rucksacks, tents and sleeping bags. Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis said he believes the fine weather, combined with the impressive acts will make this year's festival "unusually good"."The whole thing is fantastic," the 77-year-old farmer said. "There are 1,000 acres of creativity on a massive scale and to a very, very high standard. You won't see anything else like this in the whole world," he added. The weather is expected to be warm and mostly dry, allying fears of a washout usually associated with the event. The festival, organised after a year off for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, sold 135,000 tickets which were lapped up in a record one hour and 40 minutes.
