Between 29 November and 4 December the already booming cinema sector will see yet another treat for film lovers: the 7th Cairo International Women’s Film Festival
Over six days, a wide selection of works made by women will be screened at three venues: the Creativity Centre at the Cairo Opera House, Falaki Theatre at the American University in Cairo campus in downtown, and the Goethe Institute.
The festival will screen over 60 films representing 40 countries. Its sections include the International Panorama, the Egyptian Panorama and the Caravan of Arab – Iberoamerican Women’s Films.
Germany will be the Country in Focus with a selection of five films.
Other entries include: To Singapore, with Love (Singapore) by Kim Tang Pin Pin, My Love Awaits Me by the Sea (Palestine/Jordan/Qatar) by Mais Darwaza, My Dog Killer (Czech Republic) by Mira Fornay, Birds of September (Lebanon) by Sarah Francis, Optical Axis (Russia) by Marina Razbezhkina, 10949 Women (Algeria/France) by Nassima Guessoum, The Trace of the Butterfly (Egypt) by Amal Ramsi, among many others.
The organisers point to one the festival's highlights, Tribute to a Cineaste, which will be dedicated this year to the distinguished Dutch filmmaker Eugenie Jansen. There will be a selection of her films and she will host a Master Class on 1 December at the Goethe Institute.
Moreover, the festival has invited Cuba's Television Serrana to present a selection of films. There will also be a discussion with one of the Cuban filmmakers.
The Festival offers an Audience Award for Best Film.
