A Chinese version of the book "The Captive Mind" by Czeslaw Milosz, a late Polish poet and prose writer and winner of the 1980 Nobel Prize in Literature, has been published by Guangxi Normal University Press.Yi Lijun, a senior translator in charge of translating the book from Polish to Chinese, described the author as "a pursuer of difference in the name of beauty" at a conference held on Tuesday for the book's release."Milosz possesses a deep perception of the world while putting his thoughts in plain words," said Yi. "He expressed his sympathy for suffering people but showed contempt for the privileged.""The Captive Mind" is a 1953 non-fiction work that details Milosz's experiences as an underground writer during World War II and his position within the political and cultural elite of Poland in the immediate post-war years.Milosz once described the book as having been written "under great inner conflict," according to Yi.Milosz was born in 1911 and died in 2004. After serving as a cultural diplomat at Polish embassies in the United States and France, he defected from his country in the 1950s. He began to live in the United States in 1961.
