Ahwa Balady, a play directed by actor Mohamed Adel, fuses music with the poetry of Amin Haddad, Ahmed Fouad Negm, Beiram Al-Tounsi, Bahaa Jaheen and Sheikh Imam, bringing them together in a simple storyline.
The play brings forth underprivileged people’s personal and social issues, presenting contemporary daily struggles through the verses of the master poets.
The organisers are making an effort to bring poetry to the public, and the play's title Ahwa Balady (“Local Coffee Shop”) comes from the performance's similarity to conversations held in cafes.
This is Ahwa Balady’s second season, after it was performed last year at the Cairo Opera House's open air theatre, in front of the creativity centre.
Mohamed Adel is an actor and theatre director, who appeared recently in several Ramadan serials, including as singer Shereen Abdelwahab’s brother in Tareeqi (“My Way”).
