The Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO) has disclosed availability of various minerals in Sudan, stressing that the mining sector has a promising future to the Sudan economy.
The Director of the Mineral Department at AIDMO Abdal-Hameed Thamri affirmed, in a comprehensive report he presented to the National Investment Authority, availability of huge reserve of gold, adding that the most important reserves of minerals in Sudan included gold, chrome and magnesium.
The report revealed that the reserve of chrome estimated about 700,000 tons, magnesium about 100,000 tons and huge quantities of other minerals.
The report pointed out that mining contributed to the increase of the gross domestic product (GDP), where the mining sector share in the GDP in 2012 was 14%. That is besides its contribution to creation of new jobs, reduction of poverty and improvement of living standards and development of local communities.
