The Lebanese Minister of the Interior and Municipalities, Brigadier General Marwan Charbel, told Arabstoday that he has submitted a draft law to issue licenses for the installation of sun blockers on private cars for an annual fee. This is expected to provide an annual revenue of $1 billion USD for the Lebanese national treasury. Charbel fixed a fee of 750,000 Lebanese pounds ($500 USD) for a blocker that covers half a car, while fixing the rate at double that for a full body car blocker. The draft includes an exemption fee for those who require a blocker for medical reasons. Charbel stated that certain Gulf countries are issuing these licenses for more than $ 2000 USD, and added that he has received phone calls from citizens who claim they are prepared to pay the fees in advance. Charbel also announced that medical committees will be formed in Lebanese cities to issue medical certificates for those who will be exempt from paying the fee.
