The Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Al-Araby Thursday called for urgent humanitarian aid to the war-ravaged Gaza Strip, including medical items and food to help residents there surmount the disaster caused by Israeli aggression.
This came in a press statement made by Deputy Arab League chief Ahmed bin Helli after Al-Araby had met with ambassadors of Latin America to Egypt to brief them on the latest developments in the Strip and required diplomatic efforts to continue support of Latin America to Palestinian issue. Bin Helli said that Al-Araby called for providing Arab concepts, via a message to Arab foreign ministers, to be discussed in the upcoming international conference about the reconstruction of Gaza, whose infrastructure has been damaged by brutal Israeli aggression.
A delegation of Arab foreign ministers will visit Gaza Strip in the coming few days to show solidarity with and assess the needs of its traumatized people, the statement added.
Bin Helli added in the statement that the delegation will at least include foreign ministers of Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan and Morocco as well as the Arab League Secretary General.
The reconstruction process in the Strip is linked with lifting Gaza blockade, opening crossing borders between the Strip and Israel and providing international protection to Palestinian people, which is seriously considered by the UN legal committee, Arab League deputy pointed out.
Concerning Araby's meeting with ambassadors of Latin America, Helli said that Araby expressed gratitude of the league and its member states to states of Latin America as they condemned Israeli aggression on Gaza, deeming this as an "honorable stance." Araby explained in the meeting the latest developments in Gaza and the league's role in the international forums to support Palestinians, he added.
