The agenda of the Council of Arab Economic Unity (CAEU) 94th ministerial meeting to be held on September 11 comprises various economic issues and will also follow up the decisions made in previous sessions.
Ahead of the ministerial session, the Council will hold two meetings, to prepare for the major conference, the first at the level of experts on September 8-9, and the second for senior officials a day later, Assistant Arab League Secretary General for Economic Affairs Mohammad Bin Ibrahim Al-Tuwaijri said in a press statement.
The ministerial meeting will be held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.
Al-Tuwaijri added that the agenda of the CAEU economic sub-committee has several issues that will be referred to the ministerial meeting.
Participants will also discuss a report by the Arab League Secretary General on developments on the Arab economic scene.
They will also follow up the implementation of the economic aspects of the Lima Declaration issued by the third Summit of South American and Arab Countries in the capital of Peru, Al-Tuwaijri added.
The meeting will also follow up the implementation of the resolutions by the Third Africa-Arab Summit, held in Kuwait in 2013, as well as those of the ACEU 93rd ministerial sessions. Developments related to the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA), and the Arab customs cooperation will also be addressed.
Meanwhile, Al-Tuwaijri stressed the importance of reaching out to the international economic blocs as part of the Arab League membership in the World Trade Organization as an observer.
He noted that though progress in negotiations regarding the GAFTA and the Arab Customs Union, as well as other economic topics after the Doha Summit, there are still several obstacles that have to be addressed, such as the completion of the Arab rules of certificates of origin, which are likely to enhance flow of trade among the member states if accomplished.
The ministerial meeting will also discuss a proposal on setting up an Arab ministerial council for meteorology.
