Labour Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan today issued Edict 85 for this year, establishing an Equal Opportunities Unit at the Labour Ministry. The Unit, chaired by the ministry's Public and International Relations Director Fawziya Saleh Shehab, is set up in cooperation with the Supreme Council for women (SCW) and aims to integrate women's needs in the Labour Ministry's plans and development programmes in order to ensure equal opportunities for its male and female employees and inform women staff on their constitutional and legal rights and duties. The unit will also be in charge of determining the obstacles facing the full implementation of the equal opportunities principles and coordinate with SCW to solve them, organizing workshops and training session, and publishing brochures and booklets aiming to promote the values of equality between the two sexes and preparing a data-base of all the ministry's employees in order to categorize them. The edict is in line with the Cooperation Agreement signed between the Labour Ministry and SCW, under the chairmanship of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King, in this regard.
