H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council has established Emirates maritime control centre to boost the stature of Dubai as a hub of maritime activities in the world, and settle the disputes emanating from marine trade transactions.
The move reflects the Emirate's commitment to building an integrated legal environment to serve the competitive strategies of marine sector in Dubai, as one of main marine global hubs.
Sultan bin Sulayem, CEO of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, thanked Sheikh Hamdan for approving the establishment of the Emirates maritime control centre, noting that " It represents a main legal foundation for marine sector in Dubai." The centre will be handling and settling ships lease contracts, goods transport contracts, sale of used ships, ship building and repairing contracts, insurance and re-insurance policies, problems of marine collisions, marine aid and rescue, and disputes related to the settlement of marine losses
