With the completion of five cast concrete water reservoirs in the West Fenaitees area, each with a storage capacity of 80 million imperial gallons, Kuwait's total national water reservoirs can hold up to 4.3 Billion imperial gallons, said an official on Wednesday.
On hand to inaugurate the West Fenaitees project today, Minister of Public Works and Electricity Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim indicated in a press statement that his ministry was keen on augmenting the national water storage capacity periodically to keep up with the increasing spike in the nation's population.
He noted that the daily production of water in Kuwait hovers between 450 to 500 million gallons while water usage is about 427 million gallons a day.
He praised the completion of the West Fenaitees reservoirs project which he said started in 2011 at a total cost of KD 47.8 million.
He emphasized the overall strategy of his ministry which to is to build enough reservoirs to avoid any shortages in the supply of water, particularly at times of emergencies.
With regard to the ministry's campaign for judicious use of electricity and water by individuals and government agencies and ministries, he said there was improvement on that front on the part mostly of some government agencies and ministries, underscoring the need for more public awareness of the imperative to save water and electricity at home and at work.
