The rehabilitation of the capital, Algiers, decided Thursday during the Government-local authorities will cost DZD200 billion, the equivalent of more than $2.5 billion, Minister of Finance, Mohamed Djellab said Sunday.
"The problem (of the capital) is not related to the financial resources, rather to the shortcomings in the programming of projects, in the working out of studies and their completion within deadlines," Djellab told the press on the sidelines of the 38th meeting of the governors of Arab central banks.
On Thursday, the Prime Minister held a meeting gathering the government (15 members) with the local authorities on the examination of the management of Algiers, old buildings and the heritage of the Kasbah.
Further files like housing, urbanism, living condition, hygiene, transport and structures have been also examined during this meeting.
“Urgent and non-exhaustive” decisions have been taken to rehabilitate the capital as a "showcase of Algeria in 2014," stated the Minister of State, Minister of the Interior and Local Government Tayeb Belaïz.
The Premier broached a new administrative organization for the capital, which must be in line with the development witnesses by Algiers in various fields.
He noted that the capital witnesses important achievement "which have not been supported by public facilities in some places and sectors."
