Dubai - Arabstoday

The UAE's east coast is gearing up for the opening of a new shopping mall - Fujairah City Centre - that could change the retail landscape of Fujairah. Fujairah City Centre, the Emirate's first integrated retail, leisure and entertainment shopping mall, is set to open on April 4, being developed by Majid Al Futtaim Properties, a leading developer of ‎shopping malls together with hotels and ‎mixed-use community ‎projects in the Mena region. "Preparations for the April 4 opening are on-schedule with 100 per cent of retail units under fit-out and key milestones being achieved across final construction works," the company said in a statement. In the lead-up to the opening of Fujairah City Centre, the emphasis is now shifting towards finishing works in preparation for tenants to commence trading on the day of the grand opening. Fujairah City Centre is the sixth shopping mall in the UAE for Majid Al Futtaim Properties, and is being developed in joint-partnership with the government-owned Fujairah Investment Establishment. With the aim to have 100 per cent of its stores trading on opening day, each one of the mall's 105 units have been handed over and retailer fit-out is well underway including anchor tenants Centrepoint, Paris Gallery, Max Fashion and Carrefour. There are now over 1,800 individuals onsite everyday including management, retailers and contractors working towards this goal. To-date, Fujairah City Centre continues to achieve industry best-practice with over 2.5 million accident-free hours logged. Construction milestones continue to be achieved to the mall's interior and exterior structure, and there is now a shift in focus to aesthetics such as signage and landscaping. The mall's ceilings are complete and roof lights and energy saving skylights have been fully installed. The 1,000-space car park is now 60 per cent paved and external landscaping has commenced. The mall remains on-track to obtain a LEED Gold rating for its environmentally friendly design and construction, and it is set to be the first building in the Emirate to receive this industry rating. "We are diligently working with our retail partners, contractors and government officials to ensure a smooth and successful launch," said Majed Al Fahim, Senior Mall Manager for Fujairah City Centre. "Construction for the mall is on-schedule and we expect the positive momentum to increase as we move closer towards the immediate opening phase. We're delighted to confirm the opening date for Fujairah City Centre to the wider community and our valued stakeholders, and we look forward to soon welcoming everyone to the Emirate's newest lifestyle destination." Fujairah City Centre is strategically located on the intersection of the new Fujairah-Dubai highway and the Masafi Highway at the entrance to Fujairah city.
