A new 2.4-kilometre canal on Reem Island is undergoing final testing before opening next month.
Developer Aldar Properties said commissioning work on the project is well under way ahead of the scheduled flooding in April.
The canal, which is crossed by 10 bridges, runs through the Shams development and features landscaping with 450 trees, covering an area of 46,000 square metres.
"Shams is becoming one of the most sought-after destinations in the city, thanks to the quality of the developments and its prime location on Reem Island," said Talal Al Dhiyebi, chief development officer, Aldar Properties.
"This new canal will run through the heart of the development, and provide many areas for meeting up, exercising, and socialising.
"We look forward to its opening, in addition to other upcoming community events and amenities in the near future."
Aldar is close to completing more than 23km of walkways, 1,550 metres of cycle paths and 3,650m of promenades on Reem Island along with a number of parks and a public beach overlooking the mangroves.
