Several road projects in the extreme south of the country will be relaunched teh soonest possible, said Thursday in Algiers Minister of Public Works Abdelkader Kadi.
In reply to an oral question during a plenary session of the Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament), the minister said that "many projects are behind schedule, including the projects of airports of Illizi and In Amenas and a road project in the sub-prefecture of Tinzaouatine."
For Kadi, these delays are mainly due to litigations between the workers and the National Road Works Company (SONATRO) and the Algerian Road Works Company (ALTRO).
"New agreements have been signed with two private companies, which have started works on the first projects, while the second project has been entrusted to another private company."
Kadi explained the delay in some projects by the scarcity of water in the region, adding that the company in charge of the projects has to bring water from a region 80-km away from the construction site.
