Tunisia has requested the Secretariat-General of the Arab League to postpone the 4th Arab Summit for Economic and Social Development Tunis is due to host in January 2015, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mokthar Chaouachi said on Tuesday.
Tunisia is committed to organizing the Summit, but requests its postponement until a later date since it coincides with a period of forthcoming electoral events, Chaouachi told the Tunisian Press Agency.
He added that the preparatory meetings for the summit are proceeding at a fast pace to guarantee conditions to make it a success.
Tunisia is preparing for legislative elections slated for October 26, to be followed by the presidential poll on November 23.
