Tunis - SPA

The Tunisian government announced today the suspension of the new road tax increases applied to vehicles of agricultural transport and the transport of persons after the new taxes triggered a series of public protests. The decision was made after consultation with some ministers at the end of a regular meeting of the High Security Council held in Carthage with attendance of the Caretaker President, the Interim Prime Minister and the President of the National Constituent Assembly. The Interim Prime Minister stressed, however, the relevance of these new tax measures in achieving the country's financial balances and their positive impact on the middle class and underprivileged categories
