Bilateral trade turonver between Japan and Russia grew by almost 18% this year and reached $14 bln, Deputy Prime Minister and Russian presidential envoy for the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev told the roundtable with Japanese businesses on Tuesday.
"Japan has traditionally been one of Russia's main economic partners in the Asia Pacific. The volume of our [trade] relations is growing. Since the beginning of the year, trade grew by 17.7% and reached $14 bln," Trutnev said.
"The growth for the Far Eastern region is even more considerable - 23% The Far East is responsible for one third of trade turnover between Japan and Russia," he added.
Trutnev noted that several large-scale projects were implemented on the Russian territory with participation of Japanese companies, such as automobile giants Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, and Mitsubishi.
"There is interest in cooperation from the Japanese side, and there is a general course on cooperation laid out by our leaders. There are all grounds for success," he noted. Trutnev said that Russia is actively improving its investment climate and involving foreign partners in cooperation.
