An international exhibition on power technology, power saving products and green energy (Enertec Expo 2011) opened on Wednesday in Vietnam's southern Ho Chi Minh City by the city's industry and trade department and electricity general department. In the context that traditional fuel resources are getting exhausted and fuel prices increasing, energy security for development becomes an essential matter. The Enertec Expo 2011 is a practical activity to raise awareness of fuel saving and using green energy among people from all walks of life, contributing to the implementation of the national energy strategy towards pollution reduction and for environmental protection, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade (MIT) Tran Tuan Anh addressed at the opening ceremony. According to MIT, Vietnam has put the law on power saving into effect since 2011 that goes in lines with the state's strategy on energy security and development. Enertec Expo 2011 would help promoting energy saving and efficient using. Currently, when the country's gross domestic product (GDP) rises by one percent, the power usage will increase by two percent, compared with only 1-1.3 percent in other countries. This shows a high ratio of power price in the product cost that reduces the businesses' competitiveness. Products on power saving and green energy made by domestic and foreign manufacturers and displayed at more than 150 stalls at the expo will help customers select the best products suitable for their use, Anh said. During the 4-day expo, various events will be held, including seminars on labeling power saving products, promoting power use in buildings economically, prospects for investment and development of renewable energy in Vietnam, and technology and application of liquefied gas. A students' invention contest under the topic of energy saving will also be held.
