Google is expanding in Germany by hiring an additional 400 jobs in its Munich offices, the company announced Friday.
German news agency DPA reported today that the decision will double Google's workforce in Munich to 800 employees. "With its outstanding universities, modern infrastructure and broad recreational offering, Munich is the perfect setting for us," Wieland Holfelder, chief engineer at Google Germany, said Friday during the opening of a new engineering centre.
Google, which says it receives 2 million job applications every year, says it is also looking for software developers in its Berlin offices and its German headquarters in Hamburg.
Among the areas being developed by Google staff in Munich are the Chrome web browser and the company's My Account settings area used to manage user data saved by the various digital services.
Google is known for providing employees a wide selection of perks, which in Munich include a fitness studio, library, basketball court and a restaurant offering free food.
