During its participation at the world’s biggest information and communications technology (ICT) show, Huawei hosted its Global Digital Transformation Forum (GDTF), which saw keynote speeches from Huawei officials and a host of industry players from around the world.
During the one-day event, Huawei officials highlighted the ICT sector’s role in advancing economic and social development, during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
Speaking at the event, William Xu, executive director of the board and chief strategy marketing officer, Huawei, focused on growth opportunities in emerging markets and highlighted his commitment to creating value for communities by collaborating with operators to help them maximize network assets, deploy home broadband and indoor digitalization, and drive connectivity to enhance the user experience, while promoting economic and social growth.
“As we enter a fully-connected era, digital infrastructure is facilitating economic growth and emerging markets are on the cusp of a major transition toward digital economies,” he said.
Xu discussed the Global Connectivity Index (GCI) published by Huawei in 2016.
“Operators around the world are in a unique position to invest in... emerging markets to capitalize on huge ICT industry potential, untapped demographics, and national ICT strategies,” he said.
Huawei officials and experts defined key themes and trends affecting technology growth. The sessions provided a platform for operators to share industry-wide challenges, strategies, and best-practice digital solutions.
“The ROADS (Real-time, On-demand, All-online, DIY, and Social) experience requires support for both an agile, automated operating system, as well as development of the network infrastructure,” said Leroy Blimegger, vice president of Huawei’s Global Technical Services.
On the sidelines of the forum, Huawei released the industry’s first 5G network slicing router.
Huawei also released the world’s first 5G core solution for commercial use cases, known as Service-Oriented Core 2.0 (SOC 2.0).
During the MWC, Huawei highlighted its growth plans, business models and latest developments in themed areas.
Huawei’s network functions virtualization (NFV) solution received the Best Technology Enabler award during the MWC. The award highlights Huawei’s capabilities in NFV architecture, technology, commercial applications, and the evolution toward “Cloud Native.”
