German automaker Volkswagen saw its sales jump 16% year-over-year in December, helped by increasing demand in China.
Global sales rose to 567,900, up from 487,700. The increase came despite the company's struggle with a scandal involving cheating on its emission tests in the US. The scandal prompted many legal suits and the German automaker could end up paying billions of dollars in fines.
Results were boosted by a 29% in China. Sales in its home market, Germany, slumped 14% for the month. Sales in the US sales were up 20%. Overall for the full year sales rose 2.8%, AP reported today.
