U.S. stocks opened mixed Friday, with the Dow Jones industrial average down slightly. The Dow wavered in midmorning trading, dropping 13.35 points or 0.11 percent to 12,516.40. On Thursday, it had climbed 34 points, its first time in the black this week. Investor eyes are on Europe. With no major economic reports scheduled for release before a long weekend, markets were off slightly across the continent, down 0.16 percent in Paris and 0.32 percent in London. In Germany, the DAX 39 index was off 0.15 percent. On Wall Street, the Standard & Poor's 500 added 1.97 points, or 0.15 percent, to 1,322.65. The Nasdaq Composite gained 2.33 points, 0.08 percent, to 2,841.71. The benchmark 10-year treasury note rose 8/32 to 1.749 percent. The euro rose to $1.2538 from Thursday's $1.2533. Against the yen, the dollar fell to 79.58 yen from Thursday's 79.59 yen. In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index added 0.2 percent, 17.01 points, to 8,580.39.
