Japan's stocks finishes down on profit-taking

Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday, for their first decline in three sessions, as investors moved to take quick profits from the Nikkei Stock Average''s sharp rise through the previous day. Profit-taking gained momentum as the benchmark index approached 9,000. The gauge ended the day at 8,849.47, down 34.22 points, or 0.39%. U.S. stocks rose overnight after the Federal Reserve announced an extension of its ultralow interest rate policy Wednesday. But the Japanese market reaction was muted due to the yen's strength against the dollar.
