Nikkei opens flat as concerns over economy remain

Japan's Nikkei stocks index opened nearly flat Monday on lingering concerns over the U.S. and eurozone economy. In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 0.02 point from Friday to 8,374.89. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 1.91 points, or 0.27 percent, at 718. 07.
