U.S. stocks end robust Oct. on down notes

U.S. stocks ended a robust October on down notes, taking away a big chunk of the monthly gains, as renewed concerns over the European debt crisis spurred sell-offs on Monday. The blue-chip Dow fell more than 2.2 percent at the close. The broader S&P declined nearly 2.5 percent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq dropped nearly 2 percent.
