Housing starts in Canada trended higher in June compared to May, the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corp. said Tuesday. The trend in housing starts, which is a six-month rolling average on a seasonally adjusted annual basis, came to 184,514 in June. In the previous month, the adjusted six-month rolling average was 184,087. The stand alone 12-month annual rate for June, seasonally adjusted, was 199,586, down from 204,616 in May, the national housing agency said. In urban areas, the annual rate of housing starts rose in British Columbia, but fell in all other regions, including Atlantic Canada, Ontario, Quebec and the Prairies, the data agency said. Rural housing starts in the month came to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 22,501.
