U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's campaign on Friday announced the former Massachusetts governor raised 14.2 million dollars in campaign funds from July to September, less than his main competitor Rick Perry's third quarter haul. Romney's third quarter figure, raised from about 56,000 contributors, was almost 4 million less than what he took in during the second quarter. Except for him and Perry, who raised 17 million in the third quarter, other candidates in the GOP field pulled in much less. "We are proud of the 32 million we have raised for the campaign so far. This is just the start of the effort to help fuel Mitt Romney's message that will defeat President Obama next November," Spencer Zwick, Romney's national finance director, said in a statement. Obama's re-election campaign on Thursday announced it has raised 70 million in the third quarter, more than the combined figure of GOP candidates.
