A total of 5,096 mines, dating from the colonial era, were discovered and destroyed in June 2014 as part of mine-clearing operations carried out by the units of the People's National Army (ANP) along the eastern and western borders, said Thursday an official source.
The Army units discovered and destroyed 566 antipersonnel mines and 859 anti-group mines in the 2nd Military region, in addition to 3,592 antipersonnel mines, 48 anti-group mines and 31 flare mines.
Up to 30 June 2014, a total of 737,315 mines, including 621,373 antipersonnel mines, 111,414 anti-group mines and 4,528 flare mines were destroyed and discovered, said the source.
