Spain protests against austerity measures

Thousands of Spaniards took to the streets on April 29 protesting against the austerity measures recently adopted by their government. On April 20, the government approved a package of measures which included increasing tuition fees and scrapping free medicines for pensioners. Officials believe that this will save some 20 bln euros. Spain plans to meet its obligations to cut its budget deficit from 8,5% to 5,3% and reduce spending by 27 bln euros.he tex
